Essential Information for the
Ferry
- Is operated by Brightlingsea Harbour
Commissioners.
- Is licenced to carry a maximum of 12
passengers
- Can also carry dogs, bicycles, pushchairs
etc.
- Has a landing ramp giving disabled access
to the jetty and beaches. The beaches are shingle and are
suitable for walkers but may present problems for others.
- Operates between the end of the Public
Jetty at Brightlingsea, East Mersea Stone and St. Osyth Stone at
Point Clear.
The nearest vehicular access to the landing
points are:-
Brightlingsea 100 metres. Pt. Clear 200 Metres. E. Mersea 1
Mile
Assembly Points at E. Mersea Stone and St. Osyth Stone are
signposted
At St. Osyth Stone landing points depend of the height of tide and
may be inaccessible on very high tides.
At E Mersea there are steps on the sea wall which have to be used
and the path near the sea wall may be submerged.

Dial a Ferry
This service operates during periods when
there is not enough demand for a regular ferry service.
The ferry can be book for a crossing on any of the normal routes
during daily operating times. The booking must be made by telephone
on 01206 302200 before 1pm on the day of travel and please give a
minimum of 1 hour's notice.
Other services provided by the ferry
During quiet periods short harbour trips may
be available, Ask Crew for availability.
Private Hire (with coxswain)
Outside normal daily operating times the ferry
is available for private hire. Ask at the Harbour Office for
details.
